Obituary of Mary Ferrell

Mary Thompson Ferrell, of Lynchburg, passed away, Wednesday, March 5, 2008 in The Carrington Nursing Home after a brief illness. Born in Halifax, VA, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Lou Smith Thompson. She was a longtime active member of Court Street United Methodist Church having joined there when she was twelve years old. She attended Virginia Commercial College and retired after twenty years of service in the office of Chap Stick Company. She lived in Memphis, TN for twenty years when her husband was branch manager of Chap Stick there. She returned to Lynchburg in 1965 when her husband was promoted back to Lynchburg. Mrs. Ferrell is survived by her daughter, Janet F. Lawson and her husband, Jim; two grandsons, John Robert Lawson and Mark Ferrell Lawson all of Clemmons, NC; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Claude Thompson (Mrs. Alice Early Thompson) of Salem,VA; two nieces, Brooking Thompson DuPriest of Athens, GA and Ann Thompson Miller of Roanoke, VA. She is also survived by two brothers-in law, Palmore A. Ferrell of Lynchburg and William P. Ferrell and his wife, Toni, of Bedford County, VA. A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 1:00 PM in Spring Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Richard T. Woodall officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 PM at Diuguid Wiggington Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Court Street United Methodist Church, 621 Court St., Lynchburg, VA, 24504 or a charity of your choice.
