Obituary of Mildred "Mille" Lindsay Travis

Mildred “Millie” Lindsay Travis, 88, of Lynchburg, VA passed away Sunday, April 23, 2023. She was the wife of the late Charles C. Travis, Jr. 

Born December 13, 1934, in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late John Williams Lindsay and Hethie McDaniel Lindsay. 

In 1952, Millie graduated from Rustburg High School where she was elected class Historian and voted “Most Attractive.” In 1955, she graduated from Lynchburg College with a B.S. in mathematics and had the honor of being selected as the May Queen. In the early 1960’s, she utilized her math skills at General Electric where she was the only woman in the computer department. The bulk of her career, however, was spent at Brookville High School where she was a beloved math teacher for many years. 

Millie was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was known as Myrd or Mead to her grandchildren who adored her. The love of Millie’s life, however, was Charlie Travis, to whom she was married for 50 years. They were avid Brookville football and wrestling fans and were known to put on a good party! 

She is survived by one daughter, Dr. Tracy Travis and her husband, David Stephens, of Oakton, VA; one son Jon Travis of Lynchburg; a special sister-in-law, Dianne Travis; four grandchildren, Jennifer Leigh Ewan (Joey), Travis Stephens, Tyler Travis, and Trae Travis (Jennifer); five great grandchildren, Cora Ewan, Elise Ewan, Rhett Ewan, Kennedy Travis, and Kasen Travis.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 30, 2023, from 3-5 P.M. at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held Monday at 12:00 p.m. in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
