Obituary of S. Douglas Guthrie

S. Douglas Guthrie, 83, of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2022, at his home after a brief illness. He was the husband of Mary Scott Blanks Guthrie for 62 years. 

Born December 13, 1939, in Halifax County, he was the son of the late Seddie Johnson and Nannie Sue Puckett Guthrie. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and retired from the U.S. Government, Department of Labor. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially golfing and hunting and spending time on the family farm. 

In addition to his wife, Mary Scott, he is survived by two daughters, Karen Rosenblum and her husband, Lenny, of Oak Hill, VA and Brynn Guthrie and her husband, Zach Spencer, of Newbury Park, CA; one sister, Marion Roark and her husband, Phillip, of Salem, VA; two grandchildren, Jacob Rosenblum and Lindsay Rosenblum; one brother-in-law, Wiley Blanks; one niece, Annette, and three nephews, Brian, Michael and Kevin. 

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Louis Beckwith officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at 1:30 P.M. in Childrey Baptist Cemetery, Nathalie, VA.
