Obituary of Cecil Taliaferro Thompson, Jr.

Cecil Taliaferro "Buddy" Thompson, Jr. , 78 of Lynchburg, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Joyce "Joy" Eileen Clements Thompson.

Born October 5, 1943, in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late Cecil Taliaferro and Elizabeth Virginia Taylor Thompson. Buddy was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church and a semi-retired funeral director with Diuguid Funeral Service. Previously, he was a sales representative with Aurora Casket for many years. Buddy was an avid reader and loved to fish and visit the beach.

In addition to his wife Joy, he is survived by two sons, Cecil Taliaferro "Joe" Thompson, III  and his wife, Kristin, of Olney, MD and David Evans Thompson and his wife, Genevieve, of Charlottesville; two brothers, Jack Thompson and his wife, Sandra, of Lynchburg and John Thompson of Forest; one sister, Deborah Thompson Brown and her husband, Bill, of Sugar Hill, GA; five grandchildren, Kara Thompson, Jenna Thompson, Grace Thompson, Beth Thompson and Harlow Thompson; three step-daughters, Sharon Clements Scruggs and her husband, Chad of Amherst, Cheryl Clements Groah and her husband, Allen, of Rockbridge County and Carol Clements Fitzgerald and her husband, Buddy, also of Rockbridge County; one step-son, Tommy Clements and his wife, Wendy of Rockbridge County; six step- grand children, Anthony Fitzgerald, Kelly Fitzgerald, Amber Clements, Ashlee Clements, Jacob Clements and C.J. Scruggs; one step-great grandchild, Ryan Fitzgerald. He is also survived by his very special little fur baby friend  "Pepper", also known as "Pep".
