Obituary of Martha Ann Spigner

Martha Ann Ware Spigner, 96, of Lynchburg, VA and formerly of Charlottesville, VA, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022 at Westminster Canterbury in Lynchburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Spigner.

Born December 3, 1925, in Amherst County, VA, she was a daughter of the late Rupert M. Ware and Lucille Bowles Ware. Martha was a retired Registered Nurse having worked at Martha Jefferson Hospital and University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville and later at Lynchburg General Hospital and Westminster Canterbury in Lynchburg, as a Nursing Supervisor. She was a member of the former Rivermont Ave. Baptist Church. She loved gardening, knitting and watching the humming birds. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by one son, David Lockridge Spigner and his wife, Kerry,  of Lynchburg; one daughter, Vicki S. Mathews and her husband, Jerry, of Charlottesville; one brother, Johnny Ware and his wife, Diane, of Gladstone, VA; eleven grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at a later date and will be announced.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross or a charity of your choice.
