Obituary of Kathleen Purvis Hendricks

Kathleen Purvis Hendricks (Kathy, a.k.a, “Maw”), age 81, of Lynchburg went to be with her
Lord & Savior on Friday morning, December 31, 2021, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was
born in Shipman, Virginia on February 5, 1940, the daughter of Norman & Marian Purvis. Kathy
graduated from Nelson County High School with the class of 1957 and continued her education
at Phillips Business College.

Kathy married Robert B. Hendricks (deceased) at West Lynchburg Baptist Church on May 20,
1961. She is survived by her daughters, Amy (Clay) Bunner of Shipman and Sarah (David)
Bennett of Lynchburg; her grandchildren, Chris (Ashley), Ashley (Brendan), Jonathan, Michael,
Allison, Anna, Daniel, and John; her great-grandchild, Ellis; her sisters, Vada (John) Ralph and
Linda (Dale) Ward; and several cousins, nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her
brother, Alvin “Skippy” Purvis on July 16, 2021 and her sister, Norma Gray Purvis.

Kathy was a long-time member of Thomas Road Baptist Church, and served at the prayer table
for several years. Her ministry extended to her entire life, where she spoke life and
encouragement to whoever she came in contact with. Her faith was clearly evident to all, and
many feel that she is the reason they came to have a saving relationship with Jesus. Her family
has fond memories of innumerable gatherings hosted at her Lynchburg home, a place many
always felt welcome to stop by and chat. Maw loved people the way God loves all, and she made
many friends feel like family.

Funeral services to celebrate Kathy’s life and legacy will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 8,
at Thomas Road Baptist Church’s Pate Chapel with Pastor Jonathan Falwell. In lieu of flowers
