Obituary of Daniel Thurman Lawrence Jr.

Daniel Thurman Lawrence, Jr, 91, of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Lynchburg General Hospital after an extended illness. He was the husband of Martha Brizendine Lawrence for 67 years.

Born August 6, 1930 in Lynchburg, VA, he was a son of the late Daniel Thurman, Sr. and Elizabeth Wingfield Lawrence. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church on Timberlake Rd. He was a retired carpenter for several local contractors. Thurman loved woodworking, fishing, hunting and being with his family. He served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean War.

In addition his wife, Martha, he is survived by two sons, Wesley R. Lawrence and his wife Ruthie, of Bedford, VA Gary D. Lawrence and his wife Wanda of Fredericksburg, VA; one daughter, Brenda L. Saul and her husband, Gary, of Hertford, NC; one brother, Lewis Elton Lawrence of Salem, VA; two sisters, Frances Reynolds of Rustburg, VA and Levay Hall of Lynchburg, VA; six grandchildren, Milton Ray Neighbors Jr. (Teresa), Kelly G. Parker, Lindsey Williamson, Jackie Saul (Devon), Stephanie Reynolds (Harrison) and Joseph Lawrence; eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Friday, December 10, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at Calvary Baptist Church (Timberlake Rd.) with the Rev. Louis Beckwith officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Cumbie Community Cemetery in Rustburg, VA.
