Obituary of Scott Hancock
David “Scott” Hancock, 56, of Lynchburg, VA, went to be with his Lord and Savior October 2nd, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Valerie Hancock for thirty-two years.
Born December 17th, 1964 in Marion, Illinois, he was the son of Jaclyn Hancock and the late David Hancock.
Scott loved the Lord with all his heart, and lived his life in service to Him. Scott was a bi-vocational pastor for 11 years, moderator for the Williamson County Baptist Association, a humanitarian aid worker in the Middle East for 11 years, an elder at Amman International Church, and passionate about politics and Christmas. Most recently, he was an IT Project Manager at Liberty University. Above all, Scott was a loving son, husband, father and grandpa.
Scott and Valerie built a life together overflowing with love. Scott’s mission in life was to make others laugh - first and foremost his wife, Valerie. Scott cherished spending time with Valerie and investing in every one of his family members. One of his greatest joys was becoming a grandpa. Scott was known as “Uncle Scott” and “Papa Scott” by many who became like family to him over the years.
In addition to his wife, Valerie, he is survived by his daughter, Victoria Gravatt, wife of Christian Gravatt, his grandson Derek Gravatt; his son Nicholas Hancock, husband to Laura Hancock; and his sister Janeen Plumer, wife of Steve Plumer.
Services will be held on Wednesday, October 13th at Liberty University in the LaHaye Event Space. Visitation begins at 10:30 a.m. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by the graveside service at the Virginia Memorial Park in Forest, VA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or The Ronald McDonald House. Scott had a deep love for children. He always wanted to make them laugh and he never wanted to see them suffer.
The LaHaye Event Space is located here in building number 18.
