Obituary of Agnes Durrer Kirstein

AGNES DURRER KIRSTEIN

Agnes Durrer Kirstein, age 96, passed away and left her earthly bonds this past Thursday, January 14, 2021. She has fallen asleep with faith in her Lord awaiting his Coming and her glorious resurrection as mortal is changed into immortal, along with all of God’s other saints resurrected at his Coming.  Agnes was a hard-working, faithful Christian lady, a loving and devoted wife, and a glorious mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Agnes is survived by her beloved husband, Lee Kirstein. Remarkably, they were happily married 71 years. She is also survived by her sons, Sid Kirstein and Teresa Wooldridge of Lynchburg and Dean and Nora Kirstein of Blacksburg.  Agnes is survived by her five lovely grandchildren Kellie, Kim, Kara, Kate and Sara and their lively seven great-grandchildren.  Agnes was a blessing to all who knew her and is and will be greatly loved by her family, friends and acquaintances.

Agnes was born and grew up in Ruckersville, Virginia  in Greene County on the John and Mary Durrer family farm, known as Happy Acres. Agnes was the youngest of seven children and was very close to her brothers, sisters and their families. Agnes graduated from Greene County High School, went to Business School and then worked in Charlottesville as a secretary where she met Lee and fell in love.  Agnes and Lee married in 1949 and moved to Lynchburg in 1960. Agnes worked as the Secretary for Paul Monroe Elementary School for 25 years. Lee worked for First Colony Life, later Genworth.

Agnes and Lee attended Peakland Baptist Church where Agnes devoted many years of love and work as a secretary/assistant for the Church.  She also worked for the Church as a staff member until she was age 80 when she finally decided she was old enough to retire.
