I am Dana Trexler one of Miss Ivey's former piano students and just learned of her passing. She was both a talented woman beyond words (you really just had to hear her play) and a kind soul. I remember being transfixed listening to Miss Ivey's stories and experiences. I learned piano from the greatest and found a friend in the process. We kept in touch over the years, and I am honored that she thought of me in her final requests. I would love to be in touch with her family.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of “Miss Julia Ivey”. In the late spring of 1969 my family moved to 1601 Parkland Drive, directly across the street from “Miss Julia’s “ parents. I turned 7, 5 days after we moved in. I was shy and reticent to meet the neighbor children... so I pretty much stayed to myself... not particularly happy to have left my former home in the country....
I will never forget our first meeting. I woke early that summer morning..... mesmerized by mellifluous strains of emotion and nuance carried by the summer breeze into my bedroom. I recall dressing quickly and running directly outside..... seeking the source of such beauty and power ...... I found myself crossing the street and walking right up to the opened windows on one side of the house.... I sat there under the window... hidden out of sight ..... transfixed by the magic..... I lived across the street from her dear parents for 8 years.... and every summer found me anticipating her next visit. She was magic.
