Besides being a loving father who spent time with his children, he was a beloved grandfather to Eric Schrader, Blair Schrader Kerr and her husband Ryan, Brett and Devin Cress, Kierstin, Ashton and Marina Reid, Chris Schrader, Christina Crocker, Allen Crocker and his wife Paige, and an increasing number of great – grandchildren. He enjoyed keeping in touch with his nephews and nieces, cousins and friends and looked forward to sharing family celebrations with his brother-in-law, Charles F. Bill was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School and Lynchburg College. He served in the U.S. Navy and worked for many years in brick sales. He also owned and operated Movies-To-Go and Your Video Place.

An active member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church, he was an elder, Sunday School teacher and served in many other capacities through the years.

His family, his friends and his faith were most important to him. He enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels, Gleaning for the World and in discharge at Lynchburg General Hospital for twenty-one years.
