Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Ruth Wells Gibson, son Robert Gibson of Marietta, Ga, daughter Susan (and husband JR) White of Springfield, Va, daughter Jane Eyre of Odenton, Md, and daughter Pamela Gibson of Charlotte, NC. Loomis grew up in Oakwood, Va. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII, as an aerial gunner, on the B-24, Liberator. He served in missions over Rhineland, Rome-Arno, Northern and Southern France and air combat in the Balkans. After an honorable discharge, Loomis returned home to Oakwood. He soon met Ruth Wells and they were married in September 1951. They became parents with the birth of their first child, Robert, in 1954. A couple of moves and two more children found them relocating to Richmond, Va., where their last child, Pam, was born. Loomis worked for several companies, eventually deciding to work for AMF. When AMF closed their doors in 1977, Loomis and family relocated to Forest, where Loomis worked for Limitorque (now Flow Serve), until his retirement in 1992. Loomis and Ruth are members of Forest Community Church (formerly The Kirk). Loomis enjoyed his retirement years, traveling to visit many different family members, joining his wife in genealogy research, and spending time with his adult children. Loomis was a kind, gentle man who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
