Obituary of Helen Viar Mays

Helen Gorman Viar Mays, 91, of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Guggenheimer Hospice Facility. She was the wife of the late Eugene P. Mays.

Born September 12, 1927 in Nelson County, she was a daughter of the late Elbert and Virgie Viar. She was co-owner of Leighton Heel and Counter Corporation and of the Baptist faith. She was very proud of her life accomplishments and her marriage which was for 72 years. She dearly loved her only child, the late Eugene W. Mays, Sr.

She is survived by her grandson, Eugene Mays, and his wife, Meghan, of Goode, VA ; grand- daughter, Jennifer Mitchell and her husband, Kevin of Forest, VA, four great grand- children, Alexis and Collin Mays and Landon and Parker Mitchell; daughter-in-law, Gail C. Mays of Lynchburg. She was preceded in death by one brother and six sisters.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8 PM at Diuguid Wiggington Road Chapel. A graveside service will be held Thursday, January 10, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
