Obituary of Lee Carpenter

Lee Carpenter, 71, of Forest, VA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Tuesday, August 21, 2018 while at University of Virginia Hospital. He was the loving husband of Bobbi Carpenter of 49 years.

Born April 10, 1947 in Baltimore, MD, he was a son of the late Ernest Leroy Carpenter, Sr. and Myrta Suzanne Koski Carpenter. Lee had a unique sense of humor and loved to make others laugh. He was a retired air traffic controller at the Washington Center in Leesburg and later Roanoke Airport. He was a graduate of Auburn University, holding a B.S. in Aviation Management.  He loved Auburn University and was passionate about sports. He attended all of his daughters’ sporting activities, coached his daughters’ soccer teams and enjoyed playing golf. Lee loved to travel with his wife, especially to Aruba.  He was a member of the Bedford Moose Lodge.

In addition to his wife, Bobbi, he is survived by three daughters, Karen Carpenter (Vince Hoffmaster) of Bluffton, SC, Amy Carpenter (Jane Rogers) of Romney, WV and Laurie Schutz (Theodore Schutz) of Cross Junction, VA; one brother, Jim Carpenter (Diane) of Westminster, MD and one sister, Susan Carpenter Townsend also of Westminster, MD; five grandchildren, Kiersten, Jeremy and Danielle Carpenter, Brooke and Lilly Schutz; one great-grandchild, Mariah Bradshaw; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Norma Green Pritt, and one son, Christopher Carpenter.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. You are invited to wear the Auburn colors of blue and orange or your best Auburn University gear.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
