Elsie Iverson Winfree
While the gates of Heaven were open on May 6, 2018, Elsie Iverson Winfree went through.
Meeting her were those of her family who had gone before, her husband of 40 years, Rev. William A. Winfree, her children, Larry and Mary Louise Winfree and Mike Winfree, R.N., parents Sherman and Nellie Iverson, brother, Clifford Iverson and his wife, Vivian; sister, Garnett Stoutenburg and her husband Rev. Wayne Stoutenburg, brothers-in-law, Rev. Richard Moberly, her sister Ruth and husband Jarrry Pingree and two brothers-in-law Dr. Jay Buxton and Perry Black .
Surviving her are her children, Jack Winfree and his children, Katie and Will, Cathy Fletcher and her children, Matt and Mike, also Liz and Eddie Winfree. Also, her sisters Elda Buxton, Elma Black, and Thelma Moberly.
Elsie retired from the Virginia State Health Department after twenty-five years of service. She and her family were very active in the theatres of Lynchburg, working in all facets of the theatres. Elsie also volunteered in the churches her husband pastored, Sunday school teacher, MYF counselor and she retired from the VA Dept. of Health, she went next door to the emergency department at Lynchburg General Hospital to volunteer, serving more than 6000 hours.
A time of remembrance and celebration will be held Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at Virginia Memorial Park followed by a reception and fellowship time at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel.
Anyone desiring to give memorial gifts is asked to give to the Timberlake United Methodist Church, Alzheimers Association or the charity of his or her choice.
