Charles “Harold” Burks Sr., 82, of Forest, passed away at Oakwood Manor on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, after an extended illness. He was the husband to Carolyn Sprouse Burks for 55 years.
Born on May 28, 1936, in Amherst County, Va., he was the son of the late Mallie Dewey and Alice Campbell Burks.
He retired from Caskie Paper Company after 30 years of service as the Vice-President of Operations and later started his own family business, New London Tractor and Equipment from which he retired in 2007. He was a member of Timberlake Christian Church and Moose Lodge 1727. He served in the U.S. Army during the Bay of Pigs incident.
In addition to his wife, Carolyn, he is survived by a son, Charles Harold “Chuck” Burks Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Goode, Va.; two grandchildren, Delanie and Tanner Burks, also of Goode, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Dallas Burks; and three sisters, Shirley Padgett, Dorothy Foster and Evelyn Wade.
A graveside service will be held Friday, June 29, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Virginia Memorial Park with the Rev. Bob Mooty officiating. The family will receive friends at the home.
