Mary Sue Porter Hunter passed into eternal life on Sunday, June 17, 2018, at Lynchburg General Hospital. Mary Sue grew up in Prestonsburg, Kentucky.  She graduated from Pikeville College in 1952 and later attended Centre College.  She was passionate about education and worked as a remedial reading specialist, a teacher for children with multiple disabilities, and in various departments at the University of Kentucky.  Mary Sue was a member of Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where she volunteered and was an active member of Women’s Circle #4.

Mary Sue is survived by her daughter, Mary Elizabeth McCann, and Mary’s husband, James; her grandchildren, Laura Jane McCann and Kathryn Mary McCann Newhall, and Kathryn’s husband, Adair; her great-grandchildren, Mary Everly and Charles Crawford Newhall; her sister-in-law, Twila Starr Porter; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Sue was deeply interested in the lives of all those she encountered and always remembered the details they shared with her. She was proud of her daughter, her granddaughters, and her great-grandchildren, and shortly before her unexpected passing, she enjoyed laughter and a happy visit with her great-granddaughter.

Mary Sue’s family wishes to thank the many friends and healthcare providers who touched her life and cared for her.  They are especially grateful for Nancy Caldwell, Cheryl Burnette, and the other staff and friends in her pulmonology rehabilitation program and Harmonicas for Health group.
