Obituary of Octavia White Sumpter

Octavia White Sumpter, 85, of Lynchburg, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at the Summit Health and Rehabilitation.

Octavia was a member of Leesville Rd. Baptist Church

She was preceded in death by her husband George H. Sumpter, Jr., three brothers, Winston Dice, Howard Keith and Gordon Henry and two sisters, Gladys Farmer and Clarice White.  Octavia is survived by one son, George H. Sumpter,III (Carolyn), Lynchburg ,VA; one daughter, Amanda S. Shirey, Lynchburg, VA; six grandchildren, Keith Shirey (Denah), Kevin Shirey (Rachel), Alice Rose Smith (Daniel), Sarah Marie Carmichael (C.L.), Christopher Sumpter, Heather Winfield (Gerald); eight great-grandchildren and one brother, Robert C. White (Earlene), Forest, VA.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at Diuguid Funeral Service & Crematory, Waterlick Chapel (434) 237-2722.  Relatives and friends are welcome for visitation on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the chapel.  Interment will be at Forest Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family would prefer memorials be given to the Gideons in her name.
