Obituary of Marietta Lucille Tweedy Winebarger

Marietta Lucille Tweedy Winebarger, 94, beloved mother, grandmother and great- grandmother affectionately known as, Nana, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 7, 2017. Lucille was born August 28, 1922 to the late John Wesley Tweedy and Annie Burton Cardwell Tweedy. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Vaughn Herbert Winebarger and brothers, John Burton Tweedy and Filmore Tweedy. Lucille was a charter member of Mead Memorial United Methodist Church and very active in all aspects of the growth and life of the church. A true southern lady, Lucille's life was filled with kind acts and kind words, generosity , love and devotion to her family and God. She loved a good laugh and was always the first to laugh at herself. A graduate of Virginia State College for Teachers, now known as Longwood University Lucille taught third grade in Concord and often was approached by former students with love and admiration. Her grandchildren were positive that she must have taught everyone in Lynchburg. Her beautiful soprano voice and ability to bring piano keys to life will be forever remembered and missed by many. She is survived by a son, Vaughn Herbert Winebarger , Jr(Diana) of Naples, FL ,a daughter, Linda Montgomery (Joe), of Williamsburg, Kathy Tate Winebarger, of Lynchburg ; 4 grandchildren, Natalie Moore( Steve), Abbie Winebarger, Joseph Montgomery and Madeline Montgomery ; and 2 great- grandchildren, Beverly and Braeden Moore. The family would like to express our gratitude and love for her incredible caregivers, Cheryl Rose, Vanessa Cabell, and Angel Young. Our appreciation for the love and care they gave " Miss Lucille" is completely beyond measure. We are forever grateful. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 9 , 7:00-9:00 at Diuguid Timberlake. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 10 at 11:00 at Mead Memorial United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
