Obituary of Melvin Roger Meadows

Melvin Roger Meadows, 81, of Forest, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 11, 2017, following a lengthy illness. Melvin was a member of Timberlake Baptist Church. He was born May 24, 1936 in Lynch Station to Eugene Gordon Meadows and Martha Jane Andrews Meadows. As a lifetime barber for over 50 years, Melvin began his career in Altavista and later owned Bedford Barber Shop until his retirement. He loved his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He was survived by his loving wife and caretaker, Ella Davis Witt Meadows; his two children, Rhonda M. Martin and her husband Vincent, Lynch Station, VA, Sharon E. Bower, Moneta, VA; four grandchildren, Roger J. Evans and his wife Mindy K., Haley E. Martin, Mitchell Bower, Sadie Newcomb; one sister, Edness Webb, Roanoke, VA; a special nephew Jackie and Sandra Scruggs, Roanoke, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was further survived by his constant K-9 companion, Julie. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Larry, Sam & Thelbert Meadows and two sisters, Lila Scruggs and Doris Jane Meadows. A Celebration of Melvin's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 16, 2017 at Diuguid Funeral Service & Crematory Waterlick Chapel (434) 237-2722. Relatives and friends are welcome at the funeral home on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Interment will be in Virginia Memorial Park. The family would like to thank Dr. Oldham and Dr. O'Brien, his Sunday School Class at Timberlake Baptist Church as well as his family and friends for the loving care they gave Melvin over the years.
