Obituary of James Edgar Shurbet

James Edgar Shurbet ("Jim"), age 85, went to be with his Lord, Sunday, July 16, 2017, in Lynchburg, Virginia in the arms of his loving wife, Glenda Shurbet. Jim was born on June 28, 1932 in Fort Worth, Texas to James Edgar Shurbet Sr. and Evabeth (Blakeney). He was a graduate of Harding University, a lifetime time faithful member of the Church of Christ and a veteran of the US Coast Guard. Jim was one of those rare human beings that impacted everyone within his environment and his legacy continues in the lives he touched. Jim was a humble, righteous, friendly, cheerful, tender hearted, optimistic and encouraging individual. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, reading and studying his Bible, gardening, carpentry, creating and repairing things and working with his hands. He enjoyed playing ball with his over 50-softball team. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife, five daughters, two sons, seventeen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service remembering the life of Jim will be held on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fort Avenue Church of Christ in Lynchburg, Virginia. After the memorial service the family will receive visitors for a time of remembrance and sharing at the home of the Shurbet's located at 275 Bob Circle, Forest, Virginia 24551 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to: Campbell County Rescue Squad P.O.
