Obituary of Anne Marie Kennedy Dickens

Anne Marie Kennedy Dickens, 84, of Evington, Va. passed away Friday, October 20, 2017 at 7-Hills Hospice House after an extended illness. Born June 27, 1933 in Bedford County, she was a daughter of the late James Austin and Katie May Kennedy. She formerly worked at Community Hospital in Roanoke as a switchboard operator and prior to that, she worked for the F.B.I. as a fingerprint analyst. She loved animals and especially hummingbirds and dogs. She also enjoyed playing piano and listening to Lawrence Welk. She is survived by one daughter, Diane K. Dickens of Evington, VA; one sister, Mildred Taylor, of Bedford; one brother, James Kennedy (Pat) of Poquoson, VA and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Kathleen Kennedy, Eleanor Manning, Jane Waid, Betty Jo Nash and Frances Chappelle. The family wishes to thank the staff and volunteers of 7-Hills Hospice for their compassionate care given to Mrs. Dickens. Memorial contributions may be made to Lynchburg Humane Society, 1211 Old Graves Mill Rd, Lynchburg, VA 24502 or American Cancer Society, 2095 Langhorne Rd.-Suite 201, Lynchburg, VA 24501. A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 11:30 A.M.at Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery, Bedford, VA with the Rev. Mark Wilkerson officiating. All floral arrangements should be delivered directly to the gravesite on the day of the service or at other times to the residence.
