Obituary of Joseph Wayne Freeman

Joseph Wayne Freeman, Sr. (Wayne) passed away in Fairfax, VA on October 28, 2017 from complications of an ongoing illness. He was 71. Mr. Freeman was born February 1, 1946 in Battery Park, VA to his parents Lucien and Virtley Freeman. Wayne grew up in Big Island, VA and graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1968. He married June Susan Apple in 1969. He spent a career working for IBM that moved the Freemans to Florida, Tennessee, and Raleigh, NC. He retired in 2009 and moved to Burke, VA. Mr. Freeman was a humorous, caring father with passions for tinkering and woodworking. He held several patents related to information technology and his woodworking projects were cherished by family, friends, and neighbors. He was a patient husband and father, supporting his family and caring for his wife as she lived with multiple sclerosis. Wayne was a quiet man, but always attempted to make people smile with a joke or funny tune. Mr. Freeman is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Freeman, Jr. and Krista Eddy of Snowmass Village, CO; his son and daughter-in-law James and Laura Freeman of Alexandria, VA; and his granddaughter, Hannah Freeman of Snowmass Village, CO. He is preceded in death by his wife, June. Mr. Freeman will be buried in a small ceremony on November 2, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Big Island, VA. All are welcome to attend.
