Obituary of Mary Trevey

Mary Horton Trevey, 93, of Big Island died on Wednesday, October the 10th at Virginia Baptist Hospital. Born in Coleman Falls, she was the daughter of the late Edwin Horton and Elizabeth Knight Horton. She was the wife of the late John Turpin Trevey and was preceded in death by two sons, Dr. John E. Trevey and Robert F. Trevey, two sisters Pauline Leftwich and Lollie Arthur and a brother Hugh Horton. She is survived by a sister, Rebecca Grantham and her husband Croft of Alexandria, Virginia, a sister-in-law, Agatha Horton of Lynchburg, two sons, Jerry J. Trevey and his wife Linda of Big Island, James H. Trevey and his wife Donna of Richmond, and a daughter, Betty Blue and her husband David of Lynchburg. In addition she is survived by 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She served as the Postmistress of Big Island from 1944 until she retired in 1978. She was a member of Big Island Baptist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Riverside Garden Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, and a past member of the Bedford County School Board. The family will receive friends from 7- 8:30 pm Friday, October 12th at Diuguid Funeral Service, Wiggington Road, Lynchburg. Services will be held at the Big Island Baptist Church at 11 am on Saturday October 13th with the Reverend Bryon Lepere officiating. Burial will follow at the Hunting Creek Cemetery in Big Island. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Big Island Baptist Church, the Big Island Rescue Squad, the John T. and John E. Trevey Scholarship Fund at VMI, or the charity of your choice.
