Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Thompson King

Mary Thompson King passed away peacefully on February 17, 2018. Mary Elizabeth Thompson was born at home in Amherst County on November 15, 1922, into the hands of her beloved grandmother, Maude Anna Hudson. Her parents, Lucille and Dexter Thompson, were models of love and warmth that has carried down generations. Mary way preceded in death by her husband Carleton W. King and her daughter, June King. She is survived by her son-in-law, Dave King, her three grandchildren, Anna Hennessy, Justin Matijasic and Grace Matijasic, and a great-granddaughter, NoraLuca Hennessy. Mary worked as a clerk for a number of medical, law and law enforcement offices in Lynchburg. She had a vast knowledge of the medical sciences and a true passion for reading. She took great joy in fishing trips with her husband, her brother Pete and his wife, Audrey and their many friends. "Grams", as she was known to her grandchildren, was a wonderful cook, nurturer and companion. Her wit could set the room into fits of laughter and her loving touch could calm the most troubled soul. She will be missed by her family, who continue to hold her in their hearts. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of St. Paul's Episcopal church in Lynchburg on March 31, 2018 at 1 p.m.
